A MESSAGE FROM LEE, THE CHRISTMAS DAY TOGETHER COORDINATOR

Thank you to Lichfield’s Festive Helpers

It’s with immense pleasure and pride that I write this thank you. In October I stepped up to the vacant coordinator role for Churches Together in Lichfield’s annual Christmas Day Together event. Although a challenging role to undertake it was a rewarding one and one very much made easier by such willing volunteers to call upon. “Christmas Day Together” is a community project organised by Churches Together in Lichfield with a festive lunch and entertainment available for residents of Lichfield who would otherwise be alone on Christmas Day. Some 50 guests attended this year’s events with 20 volunteer drivers to offer transport for the guests and 35 volunteers in the Wade Street Church itself either helping as table hosts or kitchen help. A delightful 3-course meal was followed by carol singing and a viewing of Merry Christmas Mr Bean to much amusement! The vision of this year’s event was to try to make a place of loving friendship and enjoyment, where all visit may find peace and refreshment of God’s presence. The enthusiasm and warmth of the volunteers with the appreciation and happiness of the guests I’m confident that we truly made a special day for those attending. Thank you also goes to Tesco Lichfield and its employees for donations of selection boxes for the guests to take home, to my NHS England colleagues for their donation of gifts for the guests, a variety of bakers for the Christmas cake donations and Waitrose Lichfield customers for their community matters collection. A fabulous festive day was achieved by the selfless efforts of a group of wonderful helpers.

In friendship

Lee
