ORGANIST VACANCY AT ST. GILES' CHURCH, WHITTINGTON

ORGANIST VACANCY

ST GILES’ CHURCH, WHITTINGTON, LICHFIELD

With the impending retirement of our longstanding organist, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a salaried, Christian organist at St Giles’ Church, in the lively village of Whittington.

Our vicar is the Revd Ashley Hines, and we are the largest in a Benefice of three churches.  We are a ‘middle-of-the road’ Anglican parish, friendly, caring and welcoming.

Our organ is a two-manual, Hill, Norman, and Beard instrument from the 1920s, rebuilt in 2016.  The nave console is computerised, and the pipes are in the gallery.  It is maintained three times a year.

Our current services are at 9.30am on the first three Sundays of the month, and some fifth Sundays.  We sing from ‘Anglican Hymns Old and New’.

Fees are paid for weddings and funerals, of which there are three and fifteen on average each year, respectively.  We can source cover where occasional offices prove difficult, and on Sundays at holiday times.

For an enthusiastic and enterprising candidate, there is the challenge and opportunity to develop a choir, both from existing adults (the nucleus of a former choir remains in the congregation) and younger people from the local area.  With the establishment of a choir, we would look to reintroduce choral evensong on Sundays.

Please contact the churchwarden, David Clarke, if you have any questions and to apply for the post (daclarke55@hotmail.com and 07836 334796).
