Trussell, the anti-poverty charity and community of food banks, is launching its Walking Humbly resources online on 7 May from 9 to 10.30 am.

The resources include a booklet for church leaders and a series of Bible studies to help explore how churches can be communities where all are welcomed and all voices are heard. The resources were written with Trussell’s group of Lived Experience Partners – people who are Christian and have needed to access the support of a food bank.

Head of Church Engagement at Trussell, Jess Foster said: “These resources encourage exploration and reflection on ways that we can unintentionally exclude people facing hunger and hardship. They will help us to consider what might be developed to make our churches even more welcoming and inclusive – based on the principle that this is best done with people who are bringing their experiences of financial hardship to church.”

Speakers at the event will include Bishop Martyn Snow, Bishop of Leicester and the Church of England’s lead Bishop on Poverty, Hannah Fremont-Brown, who co-authored the resources and is the Justice Seeking Church Officer for the Methodist Church, alongside members of the Lived Experience Group and Trussell staff.

Bishop Martyn Snow said: “I warmly commend this resource to church leaders, serving in all contexts. Rooted in the wisdom of Christians who know the realities of hunger and hardship first-hand, it offers both practical tools and spiritual insight for building truly inclusive congregations. When every person is welcomed and valued as a member of Christ’s body, our shared witness becomes deeper, stronger, and more faithful to the gospel. This resource helps us all towards that vision.”

The Bible studies could be used within a Churches Together group, small group, house church or within a whole church setting. The resources aim to be relevant to a broad range of churches across the traditions.

Gather Movement Founder and Baptist minister Roger Sutton said: “This is an outstanding resource for any church seeking to strengthen its support for people experiencing the heavybur den of poverty —both within the congregation and in the wider community. It offers practical guidance, insightful ideas, and meaningful exercises, all firmly grounded in rich and relevant theology.”
